Axelle Borealis

The Artist

Bio

Born in 1976 on the French Atlantic coast, Axelle Boréalis presented her first exhibitions and large-scale performances in 1996, within Nantes’ artistic and electronic scene, revealing an early and enduring connection to painting.

Seeking to bring out of the canvas the characters that inhabit her works, and driven by a strong interest in transformation and metamorphosis, she expanded her practice in 2000 through artistic makeup.

She also specialized in trompe-l’œil techniques applied to monumental formats, marking a decisive turning point in her artistic practice.

Her professional career developed through diverse experiences in opera, cinema, and photography, with collaborations including Thierry Mugler, The Gorillaz, and the Paris Opera.

At the same time, from 2010 onwards, she developed immersive exhibitions combining paintings of various scales with body painting performances integrated into monumental works, engaging the viewer in an experience of painting in motion.

Between 2015 and 2025, she conducted in-depth research into the influence of colours, forms, and lines on human and architectural perception.

Since 2025, her practice has focused on monumental works and immersive installations integrated into specific sites, while continuing to explore more intimate formats.
