Bio
Born in 1976 on the French Atlantic coast, Axelle Boréalis presented her first exhibitions and large-scale performances in 1996, within Nantes’ artistic and electronic scene, revealing an early and enduring connection to painting.
Seeking to bring out of the canvas the characters that inhabit her works, and driven by a strong interest in transformation and metamorphosis, she expanded her practice in 2000 through artistic makeup.
She also specialized in trompe-l’œil techniques applied to monumental formats, marking a decisive turning point in her artistic practice.
Her professional career developed through diverse experiences in opera, cinema, and photography, with collaborations including Thierry Mugler, The Gorillaz, and the Paris Opera.
At the same time, from 2010 onwards, she developed immersive exhibitions combining paintings of various scales with body painting performances integrated into monumental works, engaging the viewer in an experience of painting in motion.
Between 2015 and 2025, she conducted in-depth research into the influence of colours, forms, and lines on human and architectural perception.
Since 2025, her practice has focused on monumental works and immersive installations integrated into specific sites, while continuing to explore more intimate formats.

ARTISTIC APPROACH
Axelle Borealis’ work develops a contemporary pictorial practice rooted in the wisdom of the living world.
What drives her is human potential — this power that beings often seek outside themselves, yet already carry within. Her work emerges from this conviction: reconnecting humanity with its own depth is an essential act.
Her work exists at the crossroads of contemporary worlds and ancient knowledge. She reactivates a symbolic language drawing from shared cosmologies and universal systems, where modernity and ancestral wisdom appear as two expressions of the same world. Biology, science, and spirituality come together through a single guiding principle: the unity of all things.
The human figure, architectural passages, animal guides, cells and the universe, the relationship between Earth and cosmos — all represent thresholds of transformation that structure her work. Verticality asserts itself as a fundamental anchor, an inner architecture. Each artwork invites a sensitive journey combining strength, wisdom, and connection to the living world. Axelle Borealis is both creator and observer of the work as it unfolds.
From intimate to monumental scales, she explores matter until figurative forms emerge. Her gesture combines precision, drawing, and automatic writing — allowing the artwork to reveal itself through plays of transparency and colour, or through its calligraphic forms.
Axelle Borealis works with acrylic and creates a large part of her colours from high-quality natural pigments.
Works in resonance with their environment
From intimate canvases to monumental installations, from catalogue works to bespoke creations, indoors and outdoors — every space has a soul, a DNA, an identity: Axelle Borealis creates artworks that reveal them.
Her distinctive visual signature combines structured compositions with refined calligraphic forms, enhancing volumes and creating an atmosphere that reveals and amplifies the intention of each space.
A comprehensive approach, from consultation to realization, to transform each space into a unique and memorable place.
